This week, we were invited to Webmontag in Mannheim, where we gave a brief introduction to the very exciting topic of 'invisible design', 'ambient technology', 'smart devices' or, in our case, the 'Internet of Things' (IoT for short). We had already given the presentation in a slightly slimmed-down version at the 2013 Usability Congress in Frankfurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We talked briefly about the definition - what IoT actually is, briefly jumped back to computer history and the common problems with graphical user interfaces, which is mainly due to the increased attention that such a graphical\/visual interface demands of us. The 'graphical user interface' (GUI) still dominates our everyday digital lives.
(Touch) screen, mouse, keyboard etc. define the interaction and are the haptic connection, but also the boundary to technology. However, this boundary can become invisible through the phenomenon of ubiquitous computing (omnipresence of computers) and can be better integrated into our everyday lives by using everyday objects as interaction elements (Internet of Things, ambient services)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also showed some useful examples of the use of services and IoT products and looked at what you should also consider when designing the user experience for IoT products and ambient services, which of course also relates to the fears and concerns associated with such products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diese Woche waren wir auf dem Webmontag in Mannheim eingeladen, wo wir eine kurze Einf\u00fchrung in das sehr spannende Thema \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcambient Technology' , \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcsmart Devices' oder in unserem Falle vereinfacht gesagt das \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcInternet der Dinge' (Internet of Things, kurz: IoT) gaben. Den Vortrag hatten wir etwas abgespeckter schon auf dem Usability Kongress 2013 in Frankfurt gehalten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wir sprachen kurz \u00fcber die Definition \u2013 was denn IoT eigentlich ist, sprangen kurz zur\u00fcck zur Computerhistory und den g\u00e4ngigen Problemen mit Graphical User Interfaces, was haupts\u00e4chlich in der gesteigerten Aufmerksamkeit liegt, die uns ein solches grafisches\/visuelles Interface abverlangt. Das \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcGraphical User Interface' (GUI) dominiert n\u00e4mlich immer noch unseren digitalen Alltag.
(Touch)Screen, Maus, Tastatur etc. legen die Interaktion fest und sind die haptische Verbindung, aber eben auch die auch Grenze zur Technik. Diese Grenze kann durch neue Technologien wie ubiquit\u00e4res Computing (Allgegenw\u00f6rtigkeit von Rechnern) jedoch unsichtbar werden und sich besser in unseren Alltag integrieren, indem Alltagsgegenst\u00e4nde als Interaktionselemente genutzt werden (Internet of Things, ambient Services)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wir zeigten noch einige sinnvolle Beispiele zum Einsatz von Services und IoT Produkten und gingen darauf ein, was man beim User Experience Design f\u00fcr IoT Produkte sowie ambient Services zus\u00e4tzlich beachten sollte, was nat\u00fcrlich auch die \u00c4ngste und Bedenken mit solchen Produkten betrifft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
